The challenge

Harworth Group plc, a UK-based land and property regeneration leader, manages 14,000 acres across Northern England and the Midlands, focusing on sustainable living and working spaces. In 2023, amid economic uncertainty and market fluctuations, Harworth reinforced its strategy to highlight resilience and adaptability, assuring stakeholders of its ongoing value creation. The aim was to showcase the strength and agility of Harworth's business model through a refreshed narrative and innovative visual design.

Our approach

To address these challenges, Harworth introduced an innovative infinity loop design concept for its 2023 annual report. This design symbolised the company’s strategy to “Generate value through the cycle”, emphasising resilience and adaptability in cyclical markets. Harworth refined their narrative, transitioning from a broad purpose statement of creating sustainable places to a more concentrated focus on strategic progress and resilience. The “Year in review” section highlighted strategic successes and competitive advantages despite adverse conditions. The investment case narrative was expanded to underline the company’s strategic milestones and competitive advantages, strengthening the case for continued investment. Additionally, the report includes detailed “Strategy in action” case studies, showcasing specific initiatives such as the sale of major logistics assets and the development of sustainable Grade A spaces, aligning with Harworth’s net zero ambitions and overall business responsibility.

The outcome

Harworth’s annual report effectively communicates the company’s achievements and strategic resilience. The infinity loop provided a clear visual representation of the company’s enduring strategy, enhancing confidence among stakeholders. The detailed narrative on sustainability initiatives and their clear linkage to strategic goals solidifies Harworth’s position as a leader in sustainable development. The redesign of ‘The Harworth Way’ and the inclusion of comprehensive case studies makes the report more engaging and accessible to a diverse audience.
