Chapter One

The challenge

YouGov has a complex story to tell. Its Annual Report needed to bring together its investment case, business model, divisions, markets, strategy and performance in a way that feels connected rather than like a series of stand-alone sections. The 2025 report moves from the investment case and CEO review through to the business model, divisions and SP3 strategy – all of which needed to reinforce the same core messages.

The challenge was to ensure that story was clear from the outset and consistently carried through the report.

Chapter Two

Our approach

For YouGov, wireframing is a key part of the reporting process.

Before moving into full design, we worked collaboratively with the client to map out the structure of the report page by page. This allowed us to focus first on the story: what each section needs to communicate, how the information should build, where messages need to be reinforced and how different parts of the report connect to one another.

Crucially, wireframing isn’t a one-off exercise. We iterated the structure with the YouGov team, testing and refining the flow until there’s a shared view of the story the report needed to tell.

That early work created a clear narrative framework for everything that followed. In the finished report, the strength of YouGov’s proprietary panel, connected data, recurring revenue model and strategic direction are established in the investment case and further developed through the business model and strategy sections.

The SP3 strategy is then clearly structured around four executional priorities – Panel Leadership, Product Innovation, Commercial Excellence and Operational Accountability – supported by five strategic enablers.

Chapter Three

The result

By agreeing the narrative architecture before design begins, the Annual Report becomes more than a collection of individually strong pages.

The same key messages are introduced, developed and evidenced as the reader moves through the report, creating a more coherent understanding of YouGov’s business and future direction.

The iterative wireframing process also gave the client greater opportunity to challenge and shape the story at an early stage, when structural changes are easier to make.

For J+P, the YouGov report demonstrates the value of putting story before design – using wireframing as a collaborative consultancy tool to create a report where every section contributes to one consistent narrative.
