Chapter One
The challenge
We’ve worked with Lucy Group on its Annual Report for four years. Over that time, the business and its reporting have continued to evolve.
As a privately owned company, Lucy Group doesn’t face the same reporting requirements or investor expectations as a listed business. It does, however, have a broad range of stakeholders and a complex story to communicate across its businesses, markets and international operations. The Group voluntarily reports against the Wates Corporate Governance Principles for Large Private Companies, reflecting the importance it places on transparent and effective reporting.
Our challenge each year is, therefore, to identify where we can move the reporting forward.
Chapter Two
Our approach
Over four years, we’ve built a strong understanding of Lucy Group and worked collaboratively with its team to continually develop the report.
For 2025, an updated visual identity provided the opportunity for another step forward. We evolved the Annual Report to reflect the new identity while ensuring it still worked effectively as a piece of corporate reporting.
Rather than applying the identity superficially, we considered how it could work across a substantial document – from the opening pages and strategic content, through to business reviews, ESG and governance.
At the same time, we continued to look at how the structure and presentation of content could make an increasingly broad Group story easier to understand. The report now brings together areas including market trends, innovation, business model, strategy, KPIs and individual business reviews within a clear strategic reporting structure. It also brings a complex business to life through accessible pull-out panels, intuitive iconography and compelling case studies.
Chapter Three
The result
The latest Annual Report feels recognisably Lucy Group, while representing another evolution in the quality and ambition of its reporting.
The refreshed visual approach helps bring greater energy and consistency to a report that has to communicate everything from the Group’s innovation pipeline and growth strategy to its ESG performance and governance.
Importantly, the work demonstrates that good reporting isn’t just for listed companies. Lucy Group continues to invest in how it communicates its business, strategy and progress, and our long-term relationship allows us to keep challenging what the Annual Report can do rather than simply repeating the previous year’s approach.
For J+P, it’s a good example of the value of a long-term reporting partnership: building knowledge year on year, while continually finding new ways to keep the reporting relevant.
